How to apply for FEMA assistance after a hurricane

atlanta – Florida Home owners and tenants Those affected by Hurricane Ian in Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Hardee, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pinellas and Sarasota counties can apply for FEMA emergency assistance.

Survivors can apply for disaster relief at www.disasterassistance.govby calling 800-621-3362 or using the FEMA Mobile App between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time. If you use a transmission service such as video relay service (VRS), telephone service captioning, or other transmission service, give FEMA the service number.

When applying for help, have the following information ready:

  • A current phone number where you can be reached
  • Your address and current address at the time of the accident
  • Your social security number
  • General list of disadvantages and disadvantages
  • Bank information if you choose direct deposit
  • If insured, the policy number or the name of the agent and/or company

Survivors may be eligible for assistance for uninsured and underinsured damages and losses caused by Hurricane Ian. If you have homeowners, renters, or flood insurance, you should file a claim as soon as possible. FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for insured losses. If your policy doesn’t cover all of your accident costs, you may be eligible for federal assistance.

Take photos to document the damage and begin cleaning and maintenance to prevent further damage. Remember to keep receipts for all purchases related to cleaning and maintenance.

Emergency assistance may include temporary lodging and home repairs, as well as other disaster-related expenses.
